Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

I cannot believe this, but I am 3/4 done with my pregnancy! What? Where did the time go? Can I have an extra trimester to prepare for ShuGar Boy’s arrival? I’m kidding. I’m ready to get my body back or some version of what it was back, at least initially. It’s just incredible how much the time has passed so quickly.

(Psst…don’t forget to enter my 1-year blogiversary “ShuGar Love Hearts You Giveaway!” One more day left to get some love in the mail!)

My 30 weeks update begins below:

My Doctor’s visits…

I mentioned last week in my post about daddy that I passed my secondary gestational diabetes test with flying colors! It was quite the sacrifice, but my change of diet worked. Some people have asked if I plan on going back to my old diet. No way! As much as I want to savor Bistro Shrimp Pasta from the Cheesecake Factory, I’m going to continue on my low-sugar, high-fiber diet until ShuGar Boy debuts. He makes everything worth it. Soon, my doctor’s visits will be weekly since we are quickly approaching the due date.

ShuGar Boy looks….

like the size of a head of lettuce. Cutie! I haven’t had an ultra sound in a while, but ShuGar Boy is going through a major growth spurt. From the reading, he is expected to at least grow three times as much as he is now. He  currently weights a little over three pounds.

My Body feels…

super energized some days, and exhausted on other days. We actually haven’t slept in our own bed for more than a month now! In order to avoid the ugly smelly varnish fumes from the wooden floors installation, Mr. ShuGar sleeps on the couch and I sleep on the futon. It’s been more comfortable than I would have expected, but that’s probably because I am so tired at night. For body care, I have made a point of continuing my weekly cardio three times a week (step, Zumba, and the stationary bike) and I have now started prenatal yoga to get my body ready for labor. I am amazed at the yoga poses some women can do when they are 36 weeks pregnant!

My Clothes…

are all maternity clothes, except for the occasional bigger blouses I had in my wardrobe. I have enjoyed buying nice dresses for my sister’s bridal shower, my baby shower, and our upcoming maternity photo session. I wanted to showcase the bump in all instances. See how I layer with maternity fashion and how I shop for maternity fashion on the cheap. I wanted to make sure I still looked stylish with a bump and there are great ways to dress it up. You know me; I die for fashion!

ShuGar Baby has…

an active spirit! I can sense his personality already. He moves lots now. All the time. It makes me laugh when I am in these work meetings and my belly starts vibrating and swooshing. You can see him move! Unbelievable! There is no feeling in this world that compares to seeing and feeling your baby dance. It’s as if the entire world stops and it’s only you and him. *tears*

The ShuGars have…

done a lot to prep for baby. Tons! We have completed our baby registry, taken our first baby care class, moved Mr. ShuGar’s office to make room for ShuGar Boy, completed several home improvement projects for baby and the rest of the house, confirmed our baby’s name (ssshhhhh), set up appointments to interview potential pediatricians, and found a photog to do a maternity photo session all in the past month. There’s still much more to do, but we are making progress. Today, we have a breasfeeding class and our first pediatrician interview. Eeek!

ShuGar Baby likes…

hearing mommy and daddy’s voices. For reals. Mr. ShuGar sings to him every morning and I can feel ShuGar Boy jump around. It’s the sweetest thing ever! Sometimes when I am driving, I have the music at a reasonable volume and I tell ShuGar Boy to dance and he does! Aaaaah!!! I know he recognizes our voices; I can feel it. It is true since at this point in his development, he can hear and see light. I think ShuGar Boy likes attention.

I crave…

I cannot even begin to list here since my diet has become so restrictive. It’s probably just easier to list what I can eat. Nevertheless, I have this craving for strawberry cream tea latte from Coffee Bean. I have been loving warm cereal (low-sugar, high-fiber) every morning and sometimes in the evening. Oh so good! And I really want to eat some carne asada right about now. So juicy and delicious!

I can’t stand…

salmon and most fish. Stinky! I also don’t enjoy chicken still. Blah. It’s either red meat or veggie for me. I am not a fan of any salads either. They make me sad.

I feel…

Joyous, anxious, overwhelmed, blessed, excited, stressed, happy beyond words.

I’m amazed at…

the female body! Wowsa! We really do rule the world. I cannot believe how much my body has transformed and that I carry a living, breathing human being inside. I have never been more aware of what it means to be a woman than now. It’s an experience that really defines our gender in many ways. We carry with us life and with that a power like no other.

Did you know my belly button popped? It’s kind of freaky so I will spare you the photos. How did this happen? Kind of crazy! Oh, and I just love the constant attention I get now every where I go. People smile, open doors, let me cut in line, begin conversations in elevators with me – all because of ShuGar Boy. I really, really love this! I am going to miss feeling this special attention because I kind of dig it. I admit it; I enjoy showing off my lady lumps. However, mostly, I enjoy feeling the joy and love around me from my closest family and friends and complete strangers. It makes this experience even more magical.

Very soon I can meet the second love of my life.

Do you believe in the pregnancy glow? What do you see? Did you feel a glow? Many have told me I have it and I was curious what it looks like.
