Hello, sweet lovelies! It’s the first Monday of February. Seriously, where did the time go? I remember talking with you about New Year’s resolutions (which we need to follow up on some time later). I hope you all had a fun weekend. We spent the majority of the time cleaning house by putting everything away we had moved out of the rooms that had wooden floors installed. This whole process reminds me how much I hate moving; boxes everywhere is not my idea of relaxing.

A few weeks ago, I got an email from a fellow fashionista blogger, named Janelle, who blogs at Confessions of a Fashion Stylist, owner of the official blog of Sasha Bowman, personal stylist and image consultant. She asked if I wanted to share my version of the “La Mere Layering Technique” and, or course, I jumped at the chance to do another fashion post!

This layering technique plays with different lengths of tops and sweaters, while using accessories as additional items to style your outfit and keep warm. It’s all about playing with proportions, colors, and patterns. It’s incredible what you can mix and match with a little creativity.  Layering means something different in L.A. than it does in other parts of the country or world. We don’t really have winters here – only colder falls some times.

Nevertheless, it does get “chilly” for us, so that’s when I incorporate this layering technique to my winterish outfits. I am excited to share what I have put together since, as you all know, I am pregnant and maternity fashion can be boring, if you don’t think outside the box.

My first layer was a blue long sleeve blouse you cannot see, but keeps me warm. I then added an Asos long green and white blouse that would go below my hips as the second layer. On top of this layer, I wore an electric blue blazer jacket from Express, which was shorter than the blouse layer.

The proportions are key with the second and third layers because you want to be able to showcase both by the mixing lengths, with having the second layer longer than the third. Additionally, by combining a variety of patterns and/or colors, this allows for both layers to really stand out on their own and not disappear among the whole outfit.

The cherry on top is the accessories! If you have followed me on instagram, you know that I am an accessories feign; I can’t live without them.  You can transform any outfit wit the right accessories. Using this layering technique, you can use a hat, scarf, or anything else you fancy. I chose a scarf I bought from a street vendor in Buenos Aires for about $1.00. I just love it! Notice I opted for an entirely different pattern than the blouse to add contrast.

Finally, you can use any type of bottom with these layers. I am wearing maternity jeans from Burlington Coat Factory.  Notice, my Alfani flats are not matchy matchy with the outfit; I don’t enjoy that look. I prefer to wear shoes that exude the same style, but are different in color and/or pattern.

And there you have it, maternity layering fashion without breaking your bank! Thank you, Janelle, for inviting me to share my own style. I had fun creating the concept and I so glad we connected. For more fashion tips, you can check out Confessions of a Fashion Stylist.

Don’t forget to participate in my one-year blogiversary ShuGar Love Hearts You Giveaway happening now! There are hearts and love as part of my thank you to you! Giveaway ends this Thursday, February 6th. Best of luck!
