Hello You!

Hope you have been enjoying summer wherever you are. The weather has been a bit cuckoo here in Los Angeles – it feels like I am living in a tropical country these days. I am also so happy that I am on vacay. I haven’t really had proper time off since maternity leave.

Since we are deep into summer, I thought it would be fun to share some of these cheerful art prints that exude the summer vibe. Lately, I’ve been wanting to use more patterns in every place I can. These are cooler than cool!

Smell the Roses

The All You Need is Love Project is a movement to inspire more love on this planet. The more we come together, the more love we can share. Join the revolution here!

Thank you all for the kind welcome back love! I really do have the absolute best followers ever!

Do you remember the All You Need is Love Project? It was my attempt to add more love into this world through a love revolution. I can’t keep up the same pace with the project, but I still want to keep it alive in an informal way. On Thursdays, whether I post or not, share thoughts, photos, videos from your heart. Use #allyouneedisloveproject so we can all stay connected. That’s it! Easy peasy! When I have more time, I will return to more structured posts, but for now love is all we need.

Let’s get to it! Ever since I was reborn as a mom, I’ve seen life so differently. In many ways, it’s been a whirlwind and in other ways I am seeing life through a toddler’s eyes. Let me tell you: Life is magnificent. You just have to stop and smell the roses. Want proof?

  • Have you seen the sunsets we’ve been having lately? They’re out of this world! Take the time and study the rich colors. It will blow your mind.
  • I have always eaten my cereal with warm milk. I know that is odd for most. Lately, I’ve discovered the joy of cold cereal at the end of a long day. #puredelight
  • There is absolutely nothing cuter than seeing your baby master his language syllable by syllable. It’s as if I see his world opening right before his eyes. He says “tra” for trash and “guwa” for agua (water). I die!
  • Mr. ShuGar told me the other day that I was the best thing that ever happened to him. I stopped for a bit to think about that statement. To be considered someone’s best is pretty rad, but coming from him, it’s about the raddest thing I could have ever imagined. If you knew him, you’d know he just doesn’t throw those statements around; there is profound truth in his words.
  • Because of ShuGar Boy’s sleeping habits, I’ve had time to read more while he naps. When was the last time you read a good book? I’m not talking about just any old tale, but one that transports you into a universe filled with all your imagination running free. It’s incredible to allow yourself to be immersed in a good read. In this age of instant gratification, a book is a nice way to slow things down and cherish every word.

What are some things you’ve noticed when you stop and smell the flowers?

Happy 4th of July to all my American ShuGar Lovelies! Hope you enjoy celebrating our country’s birthday.

Reborn

Reborn

My Dearest ShuGar Loves,

I am back!!!!!! Well, sort of. Believe it or not, I have tried to write this post for over six months. Each and every time, life takes over and I just click “save draft” in the hopes that I will return one day. I thought it fitting that I would relaunch around the day I was born – really because I feel as though I have been reborn.

Before you think I am going to get all crazy existential and hippie-ish on you, do not despair. You may be wondering where I’ve been all this time. Guess what? I’ve been trying to figure that out myself. How is it that just giving birth to one little human can make it so hard to have time to myself to blog? As you know, I like to be honest with all you ShuGar Lovelies – I hope that is why you return time and time again to read my thoughts. So, here goes….the reality of motherhood.

I will not be sharing everything that has happened to me since my blog hiatus because it just wouldn’t be that exciting. The truth of motherhood is that it is filled with the sublime, the mundane, the exhaustion, the jubilee, and the despair all rolled into one. Being a mom is not for the faint of heart. We see all these nice photos on pinterest and instagram and they are all so pretty, but it is NOT motherhood.

Motherhood is staying up with your child all night when he has a fever; it is cleaning up his poo sometimes 5 times a day. At times, it is lying in bed with him all day and thinking life just could not get any better. It’s looking at your baby as he stands up for the first time and feeling so much happiness in your heart you feel as if it’s going to burst. It’s breastfeeding through pain, laughing at the silliest things, and carrying your 20-pound baby at all hours of the day. Blogging sometimes just can’t be fit into 24 hours of one day.

I may be breaking some parenting code here, but when you have a baby (this applies to both mommies and daddies, but I can only speak from the mommy perspective), your life is over. Your life, your identity, your pre-baby body is dead. Yes, I said it. But don’t take my word for it. One of my favorite quotes from my crush Bill Murray, playing Bob in Lost in Translation (love this film!!!) said it best.

The most terrifying day of your life is the day the first one is born…Your life, as you know it… is gone. Never to return. But they learn how to walk, and they learn how to talk… and you want to be with them. And they turn out to be the most delightful people you will ever meet in your life.

And there you have it. “Your life, as you know it, is gone.” No one ever told me this. Or maybe they did and I just brushed it off because, after all, how hard could it be to raise a baby? When you have a child, your former life dies a quick death. Now, please don’t think I am morbid. I do believe you eventually get some of it back, but it will never be the same. Why? Because up until that moment when he is born, you never, ever knew that type of love existed. It’s all encompassing and forever will be. Those of us who are parents are so lucky to know this love.

I share these truths not to scare anyone, but to state why I have not returned. I have been trying to figure out who this new person is. This mother inside of me I never knew could be. For 15 months, I have been trying to survive sleepless nights while, at the same time, attempting to be a loving wife, a dedicated full-time employee, and a normal human being. The only thing I believe I have accomplished is learning how to be Camden’s mommy. I think I finally have that down.

I cannot commit to blogging on a regular basis. It is too much pressure on me. I can tell you that my heart needed to return. I had to give this gift to myself. The writer in me could not die. She is reborn.

I hope you stop by from time to time to continue to follow me on my love journey. I am sorry if you feel that I talk about my baby too much. I apologize for all the future posts that center too much on my life as a mommy. You may ask yourself, “Where is the old Mrs. ShuGar?” Well, dear loves, she is gone.

This is the new me. I am reborn. I am a mother. I am a writer. And, above all else, I am a  lover of love.

Thank you for sharing your hearts with me.

Happy Monday to all! Hope you had a restful weekend. I wish I could say we did, but Mister Camden has decided to wake up every hour at night. I need a new word for tired.

I’ve got a special “treat” for you today. Literally. Back in the day when Mr. ShuGar and I had more free time, we used to enjoy exploring L.A.’s hidden gems. L.A. is full of special places to discover. Emma Powers from RelayRides contacted me about wanting me to write a post about one of L.A.’s hidden gems. Perfect! My post will be linked on Pinterest, where she is collecting hidden gems from all around the country. I love writing about how much I heart my city, so I agreed. Emma works for RelayRides, which is a company that operates similarly to AirBnB, but for cars. Basically, if you want to rent a car in a city, you can “share” someone’s car and you’re good to go! Pretty neat, dontcha think?

So, what’s the hidden gem I chose? It’s delicious!

But, wait! I want more reading!

Minimalist Movie Posters

Hello to you all! Happy Monday. I apologize for my blogging absence , but last week was a bit hectic. Camdie has kept me quite busy and my baby sister got married, too. Regarding my little boy, it appears he is not a big napper, at least not on his own.  Also, I celebrated by 36th birthday yesterday. I don’t feel a day over 21 and so far my 30’s have been pretty darn fabulous.

For today’s inspiration, I present to you my obsession with minimalist film art. Since Mr. ShuGar and I are huge indie film lovers, I always enjoy discovering new movies that may not necessarily be blockbusters or for the masses. I appreciate when I stumble upon movie posters that are unconventional and simple in nature. One day when we have a bigger house, I’d like to have a gallery wall with rad unique movie posters from our favorite indie films. For the time being, these are some of the movie posters that have captured my attention. I enjoy discovering how creative artists can be when designing a movie poster which is supposed to entice the public.

Hello there, ShuGar Loves! How’s life? Have you been enjoying the World Cup? I’m a big World Cup nerd and I’ve been fixed to the tv these past few days. How about that last match between the U.S. and Portugal? So close!!!

Are any of you lovelies looking for some inspiration out there? Are you wanting to create a gallery wall in your house, but don’t know where to find gorgeous one-of-a-kind pieces that don’t cost you an arm and a leg? Well, today I have a special treat for you from one of my sponsors. Zakkiya Hamza is the owner of Inkstruck Studio, a rad design and art studio with lots of pretty things that would make your heart flutter. Zakkiya is a sweetheart; she is a mama to her cutie son and an inspiration to me because this lady is quite talented. Care to see what I am talking about? I’ll have Zakkiya explain a bit more about her art and what inspires her.

Hello, dear ShuGar Loves! I hope you had a beautiful Father’s Day weekend. Mr. ShuGar and I spent a lovely time with our family and meeting up with friends. Everything is so much more fun with little Camdie with us.

Some of you may remember that back in the day pre-Camden I blogged about my photography journey and how I was taking a class to try to learn how to take proper photos. Well, since our little ShuGar Boy has been here, I haven’t really had the time to practice f stops, shutter speed, and ISOs, but it doesn’t mean I still don’t dream about it. In fact, I sometimes wonder how I would ever manage to take a real photo of Camden in manual mode when he is so figgidity and hard to get to stay still for that special “say cheese” moment. For now, the automatic setting on my Android will beyond suffice.

Nevertheless, I still very much love fantasizing about photography and the beauty of capturing that one glorious, unique photo using the right camera settings. Here are some black and white photos I’ve been mesmerized by. Black and white photography adds a certain je ne sais quoi to any photo, wouldn’t you agree?

Do any of these black and white pictures strike your fancy? What comes to mind when you see black and white photography?

Sunnies California

Vintage Sunglasses ShuGar Fix Mondays is a weekly inspiration series because Mondays deserve an extra dose of pretty. For more ShuGar Fix Mondays, click here!

Hello, sweet ShuGar Loves! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Can you believe summer is almost here? Woohoo! By far, summer is my favorite season, which works out perfectly since living in Southern California equates to the perpetual land of summer and spring.

One accessory every California girl must have is sunglasses. In fact, a true California gal has a variety of sunglasses to accessorize her outfit on a daily basis. Since we have sun essentially throughout the entire year, sunglasses are a vital component of any look. In fact, sunglasses add that final “pop” in your outfit and can make a true fashion statement.

I admit I am sunglasses obsessed. They are each so different and you can have fun mixing and matching.

Trending this season are glasses which are more bold with fun embellishments, like the photo cover. I am also coveting the sunglasses below because they all have a certain pizzaz about them which I love.

Are you a sunglasses collector? Do you have a favorite pair? Would you wear any of the glasses featured above? What is your sunglasses style?

Happy Monday!
