Hey Loves!
i'm mrs shugar...
I am a writer at my core
I have a love-love relationship with words and have been writing since I was a little one. My mommy has kept the short stories I’ve written throughout the years, including my own version of popular fairy tales. When I was younger, I was fascinated with how writers crafted their stories using the 26 letters of the alphabet. I was a voracious reader and dreamt of one day having the world read my own words.
When I decided to create my blog, I was thinking about what has inspired me to finally make my writing public. I immediately thought of Mr. ShuGar’s love and our marriage. One of the many reasons why I fell in love with him is his incredible creative talent. He gave me the inspirational jolt to pursue my own creative path. Because of his support, I felt the confidence to write from my heart. Because my love for Mr. ShuGar propelled me to start blogging, I decided to use similar colors, fonts, and theme from our wedding for my original blog.
I began my blog by writing about the Heart and all there is to Love. My blog was a snapshot of my heart, inspired by the “ShuGar Love” in my life. It originally explored my love for art, photography, The Beatles, traveling, indie films, dance, books, food, LA, fashion, beauty, family, marriage, and, most importantly, love.
But, then something magical happened from this ShuGar Love ...
But I never forgot my passion for writing.
And I always knew that when the timing was right, I would return. And I am back, but I am not the same Mrs. ShuGar. I have evolved and so has my writing.
I still have similar passions, but I have a different focus now. My family and my well-being are my #1 priority and everything else is secondary. I know this is a season in my journey as a mother that will one day pass, but for now I am embracing motherhood as an all-encompassing experience. I now blog about my life as a woman of color who is a mother, a wife, and a lover of words who struggles with pursuing many of her original passions, but has never given up on her dreams. I plan to explore further my identity as a Latina raising children in a biracial marriage. In this transformation, I have also developed a dedication to pursuing a healthy sense of well-being, which includes mental, physical, and emotional wellness.
ShuGar Love is an ode to my life...
… as a working mother and a devoted wife, filled with all its joys and struggles. It is a blog that I hope inspires mothers to not forget that we are still human beings with wants, needs and dreams. Even though we may feel alone when we are entrenched in the sleep-deprived years, there is a light within us that cannot be extinguished that will one day shine bright again. It’s a blog about redefining your passions and pursuing a sense of well-being which gives you a foundation to live the life of your dreams.
If you followed my blog in its original format, I want you to know I am still Mrs. ShuGar and I still get butterflies in my stomach from wearing the perfect outfit on a “Fall” Los Angeles day. I still get excited when I watch an indie film which leads me to talk for days about the nuances of the film and its themes. My blog is still filled with hope and lots of love references.
However, my blog has evolved into something deeper than what I had originally intended its purpose to be. Becoming a mother and a wife truly are transformative experiences and, as such, I blog about how these identities have redefined how I pursue my passions while I embrace my Latina culture that I infuse in everything I do.
I want my blog to remind women, especially women of color, to prioritize themselves so they can be the best versions of themselves as wives, mothers, and human beings. And, of course, you’ll still see me talk about my love for fashion, art, Los Angeles, traveling, and the best band in the world: The Beatles.
