Today’s Love Topic:

How do you show you love someone? What are the simple things you do for your family/partner/friends to demonstrate your devotion?

Thank you to everyone who participated in the launch of last week’s All You Need is Love Project! It’s been so much fun sharing our hearts with each other. It makes this world seem just a tiny bit smaller, doesn’t it? If you are just joining the lovin’, please read here about how to get involved.

So how do I show I love Mr. ShuGar? Short answer: Every day in small ways.

Do you want to see?

Marriage is not like your wedding. You don’t have planners helping you coordinate anything in your daily life. No one helps you choose how to decorate your house, etc. In marriage, it’s all about the long haul and the growth in the relationship through life’s many surprises. Thus, I believe you must find love in the mundane to keep the feeling alive. This is the bare minimum, but, frankly, I think we should all strive to have our love grow and not stay stagnant.

Mr. ShuGar and I lead very busy lives. He is a filmmaker and I have a full-time job, which demands much of my time. We see each other early morning and late night. Because of our schedules, it is even more important to demonstrate our devotion to each other in any way we can. Below are three things I do as often as possible that I wrap with love.

Love Messages

My-Cell

Even though Mr. ShuGar and I may not be in the same physical space for the majority of our day, we stay connected with this little handy dandy cell phone device. We exchange love e-notes via text as often as possible throughout the week. It may be a simple, “I love you,” to a little reminder which states, “I miss you.” These days, Mr. ShuGar also sends messages to ShuGar Boy and I tell him ShuGar Baby says hi right back.  I just adore when I receive his messages in between my meetings. They put an exclamation mark on my day every single time.

I don’t think you can ever exhaust those three very special words: I love you. If you can’t say them face to face, find ways to sneak them in using other ways.

Coffee Hug

CoffeeOn the weekends, I have more time to show Mr. ShuGar my love in our every day lives. I like to prepare Mr. ShuGar’s coffee concoction so that he can enjoy while we are chilling on the couch. He doesn’t mind the instant coffee blend, but he likes a certain amount of soy in his coffee. I put together the exact measurements so that it tastes just right, not too sweet, but not too black.

It brings me such joy to see him sip his coffee with a smile on his face. He says it tastes better when I make it. Whether or not that is true, I take pride in being able to give him pleasure in this simple way. It doesn’t take much out of my day to give him a caffeine hug.

Snack Love

SnacksEvery morning, I am rushing to work. This happens no matter how early I wake up. It’s my style, I guess. Yet, I make sure to take time to prepare Mr. ShuGar’s snacks for the day. I want to make sure he is nourished throughout the day. Plus, it’s my little sneaky way of reminding him I love him and I am there with him, in spirit. I chop up an apple in small pieces (per his request), put some healthy nuts in a bag, add a little something sweet like yogurt, and always make sure his water container is replenished.

This is my way of showing Mr. ShuGar I care about his well-being. It makes me feel at ease knowing he is eating healthy throughout his busy schedule. Every item I prepare is covered with my heart.
