Hi there and Happy July! A year ago this month, we found out we were pregnant. It’s amazing how life can change and you can be bestowed such a beautiful gift. As such, a year later I feel like I am a different person. My identity has changed. I am a mom and I will forever never be the same. One of the many lessons of motherhood (and there are many) is learning to be unperfect. And, yes, I just made up my own word.

Dear Camden,

Have I told you how much I adore you? You and your daddy are my greatest gifts. I write you this letter so you can cherish a special time you and I had together from the moment you were born. For the past two and a half months, I have been home with you every second of every day. I have been blessed to care for you from the moment your eyes open to the second they are shut. But, now, this time will soon come to an end. Because of that, I want you to know how much I have cherished our time together.

Hello to all! Yup, it is true. Our little Camden has turned two months. Seriously? How is that even possible. I still remember coming home from the hospital as if it were yesterday. Every day is a blessing with this little fellow. He’s changing so rapidly that I am so excited to look back on these updates and capture the development.

A Milk Love Story

Milk

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

Hi there! It’s feeling more and more like summer these days. I always get excited for summer because it’s my birthday season. Can’t wait to celebrate with our little ShuGar Boy this year.

The female body is so incredibly beautiful. Not only do we give life, but we also produce valuable sustenance to keep our babies alive for the first years of their lives. Before becoming a mom, I never looked at my breasts as anything special. Don’t get me wrong – I love my boobies. However, they’re just breasts and practically every other person has them.

Now, I see them as so much more as they have given my little Camden Boy his valuable nutrients these past few months. They have also provided me with a unique bonding time with my little one as I nuzzle him close to me 8-10 times a day for anywhere from 10-25 minutes a feeding. It’s our time to be together. I never knew I’d love this part of motherhood, but I have grown to cherish feeding him daily.

However, this time is slowly coming to an end as I must soon return to work. Due to my aversion for pumping, which I have shared previously here, I have had to introduce formula. So I share with you my milk love story. It’s a story of letting go.

TODAY’S LOVE TOPIC:

Give an example in your life when you have felt/given unconditional love. What defines unconditional love for you? Is it possible to love someone with no strings attached?

Hi loves! By now you all probably know I love love. I’ve always had since I was a wee little girl. One of the reasons why I heart love is because we are all creatures who crave this feeling. It’s something money can never buy, yet it’s the most valuable commodity on earth. Who wouldn’t be fascinated by this sentiment? One of the many intriguing aspects about love is the conditions to which we love. Is there such a thing as unconditional love?

I say yes and no.

I Miss Him

Hope everyone had a restful weekend! Rest is a word not common in my vocabulary at the moment. Baby Camdie has proven to be very active these days so any type of relaxation doesn’t look possible in our near future. Nevertheless, I enjoy being up with him and watching him grow. Every day, he does something new that makes me fall in love with him a million times more.

This post is not about my baby, at least not directly. This time I am choosing to write about Mr. ShuGar and our life post-baby. I’d like to share what it has been like for our life as a married couple now that we have added a plus one to our original party of two.

Today’s Love Topic:

Let’s start a monthly tradition of having a love free-for-all topic! Post anything your heart desires about love next week. The only requisite is that you share your love with the rest of us.

As a recent mama, everything is new to me. I’ve heard my girlfriends talk about the challenges and joys of motherhood, but until you experience it yourself you really don’t understand it. One of the lessons I have learned in my five weeks as a mother is the reality that many moms are plagued with guilt and pressure to live up to the golden standard of motherhood. It’s a sort of keeping-up-with-the-Jane’s-of our-society complex. Let me use my experience with breastfeeding as an example of mama’s guilt and pressure. Keep in mind, this topic transcends beyond breastfeeding and really can be inserted into anything related to motherhood.

This post is a lesson on self-love.

The Big Mommy Secret

Ssshhh

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

We mommies are fascinating human beings. In many ways, we are the givers of life, the (true) heads of a household, the major food supplies for our babies, and the root of love in our family. Despite all these accolades, we are also individuals plagued with an exorbitant amount of self-doubt and guilt, at least first-time mommies. And, no, first-time daddies don’t carry this same burden. Interestingly, I believe these feelings transcend to many women, mom and non-moms. I’ve just barely entered the mommy club, but I’d like to unveil some of our dark secrets about labor and post-labor many mommies choose not to tell (or conveniently get amnesia about).
