A ShuGar Love Year in Review

Hello, sweet friends! This is it: the day before Christmas Eve. Eeep! So excited. Since I grew up in a Mexican family, the day before Christmas is a big deal as we celebrate baby Jesus being born.  One of the big traditions in our household is making tamales and other yummy Mexican food. To me, Christmas is those moments in the kitchen prepping all the food, then gathering around the Christmas tree on Christmas Day to open the presents.

As I mentioned in my last Week in the Life post, Mr. ShuGar and I are going on a baby moon to Carmel and Big Sur right after Christmas. Yay! The picture above was taken two years ago on our honeymoon in Australia. Wow! How time flies and now we are taking a vacation before ShuGar Baby comes into our world. So blessed beyond measure.  To close out this amazing year, I’d like to reflect on 2013 in relation to the ShuGar Love in my life, which includes all of you!

A Week in the Life: Week 2

A Week in the Life is a photo inspiration series to document every day moments in my ShuGar life.

Hello, ShuGar Loves! Can I get a woot-woot because it’s Friday?! It’s about time. This is officially my last day of work before Winter break. (I’m doing cartwheels in my mind). Besides being excited for Christmas, Mr. ShuGar and I are going on a baby moon road trip to Big Sur and Carmel.  We’ll be taking parts of Pacific Coast Highway to enjoy the California Coast. I’ve always wanted to go to Big Sur and Carmel and now I will finally get the chance! During my vacation, I will not be blogging since this little writer needs some time off to live life so to then write about it. You can follow our baby moon adventures via my instagram. Don’t worry; I’ll be back after the New Year!

I hope you enjoyed Week One of A Week in the Life. Lots has happened this week so let’s jump right into the photos!

ShuGar Baby Monthly Update: 22nd Week

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

Hi all! So excited to share my ShuGar Baby updates with you. It’s amazing how much changes in a week! It’s so miraculous to live this physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It truly is the most out-of-this world experience.  Also, as I mentioned previously, Mr. ShuGar and I are tracking the fetal age (at conception) and not pregnancy age. What this means is that according to my doctors, I am officially 24 weeks, although baby has developed up to the 22nd week. If this sounds at all confusing to you, you are not alone. That’s why I will just continue tracking the pregnancy age and forget about the fetal age from this point forward. Too many numbers to keep track of. My next post will be for the pregnancy age of 26 weeks. But for now…

During my 22nd week…

Mrs. ShuGar’s Top Holiday Movies

Hi friends! How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? We had a very productive weekend, which included bridal shower crafting for my sis, watching American Hustle, brunching with an old friend at Mo’s, writing Christmas cards, and conquering our fear of starting our baby registry.  We were busy, but it feels great! As I’ve previously mentioned, Mr. ShuGar and I have a tradition of watching as many Oscar/Golden Globe nominated films and I will share my reviews here. Stay tuned for American Hustle!

Now, for this week’s ShuGar Fix Mondays, it is Christmas themed because we are only a little over a week away! We are a movie-watching couple for sure.  It’s what we do to unwind and have fun. Below are my Top 5 holiday movies I watch over and over and over again. They are all kind of quirky, but sweet and cute and perfect for the season!

A Week in the Life: Week 1

Hello all! It’s Friday. Woohoo! I don’t know about you, but my body is begging for the weekend. To start you off into your holiday weekend fun, I am unveiling a new photography feature on my blog titled A Week in the Life! Inspired by Mr. ShuGar and I’s mutual love for the Beatles (A Day in the Life) and my desire to learn the art of photography, this photo series will contain snapshots from images I capture throughout the week.  I will photograph life through my eyes so that you can have a glimpse into my world. To see my daily photo love, follow me on instagram.

Pregnancy Joys

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

Boy, oh boy (no pun intended), I am so excited to reveal my first collaborative post with some pretty awesome bloggers! This post was inspired by all the beautiful comments, messages, and overall love you sent me regarding my pregnancy woes. I’ve decided to reevaluate this whole mommy-to-be journey and attempt a more positive perspective moving forward, at least I will try real hard to do this. After all, I am human (as we all are) and we all have our moments and our breaking points.

I present to you the unexpected joys of carrying a human being in your belly! Yes, you read it right. So much has been talked about regarding the inconveniences of being preggo, and trust me they are true. However, there’s this other less-talked-about side we mommies-to-be experience, which makes this entire experience kind of rad! I would even say magical. Would you agree, mamas? Don’t take my word for it. Below are a series of fun, insightful, and genuinely sweet thoughts on how it feels to have a beautiful baby growing inside of our bodies.  This post is a collaboration with these sweet mama bloggers who rock my world (in no particular order):

Black & White Love Affair

Hi ShuGar friends! How was your weekend? Was it cold in your part of the world? It sure was in L.A., but I do preface this with saying we are chickens when it comes to any temperature below 50. For us, it was “freezing.”  We went on a hospital tour of the labor and delivery section of our hospital. So exciting! It was great we did this because it takes the mystery out of the unknown. I loved the hospital staff.  We also tried the trendy restaurant, Fig & Olive. The food was good and the ambience was really nice. Oh, I have come up with another great feature to add to the blog! Stay tuned this Friday for the grand reveal.

Now, onto your weekly dose of ShuGar Fix Mondays. I was approached by the company Brilliant Earth to explore their jewelry collection and I jumped at the chance of swooning over jewelry. After all, diamonds really are our best friends, right? As I searched the website, I was really impressed with the quality of the pieces, but also that of the company. Brilliant Earth believes in providing the highest quality of jewelry using socially responsible practices, which includes avoiding any use of conflict-free diamonds. Plus, what’s really rad is they donate a portion of their profits to benefit communities affected by the dirty side of the diamond industry. Now, that is something worth shopping for! Diamonds are on the minds of many this season because of all the gifting and proposals happening. Such an exciting time to receive jewelry!

The more I thought about diamonds, the more I wanted to wear white in some part of my fashion.  I know there is a rule that you can’t wear white after Labor Day, but rules are meant to be broken, dontcha think? I love pairing white with black. It’s just so classic and clean. I confess, dear readers, I am having a black and white love affair.

Using the beautiful vintage-inspired Danuta Earrings and Lucina Rings as inspiration, I created a black and white inspiration board.  I am obsessed with these two coats! I know in L.A. we don’t usually have coat-weather, but I’d suffer through feeling stuffy to wear one of these beauties! Oh, and those white dresses would look divine at a holiday party. I opted to add pops of black either in the tights or the gloves. Finally, who doesn’t love a heart pouch to carry your lady items? I heart it all.

Best of luck to all those fellas proposing to their loves! I hope I inspired you to add some black and white to your wardrobe this season.

Do you enjoy wearing white and/or black this time of year? What’s one of your favorite fashion items of this color palette?

Wishing everyone a great day! I’m excited to reveal a collaborative post for this week’s Mommy’s Corner.

Disclosure: This post is a collaboration with Brilliant Earth, but all opinions are my own.

Blog Business

Thank you for your kind comments about my pregnancy woes. I appreciate all the tweets, instagrams, facebook, and personal emails I received.  So lucky to have you all in my life! Wow! It’s also a nice feeling knowing that I am not the only crazy one with these thoughts. Several of my sweet friends have reached out a helping hand and I am taking them up on their offer. Never underestimate the power of sisterhood.

Receiving your blog love couldn’t have happened at a better time, too. I needed this.

Pregnancy Woes

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

Hi sweet friends! How is your week going so far? Were you able to jump right back into the swing of things post-Turkey day? I know for me it’s been non-stop things to do. On that note, let’s have a heart-to-heart.

Holiday Gifts for Her, Him, & Them

|1| Wooden Cuff   |2| Links of Love Necklace   |3| Geometric Tagua Necklace   |4| Geography Tote   |5| Flower Pouch   |6| Scarf

Hi ShuGar lovelies! For those living in the States, I hope you had a yummy and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend, and for everyone else I hope it was a fun weekend.  We had a great time hanging out with family and continuing our home improvement projects. These days, every weekend is full of activities.

Since it is now December this means the holidays are just around the corner; actually, T-23 days to be exact.  Raise your hand if that kind of stresses you out? (I’m raising my hand!).  It’s not that I don’t love the holidays, but it’s just the pressure to find the perfect gift for an economical price, while dealing with the crowds and long lines. Ugh.

Lucky for you, this post will solve all your problems with my holiday gift guide for her, him and them.  I am happy to share that I found the cutest online shop called Uncommon Goods, which has loads of great gift ideas that won’t break the bank.  I’ve gone through their website to find gifts for all the loves in your life, while keeping within a budget of less than $100 for each item.  I love to give presents that have meaning and truly reflect the recipient’s personality. Of course, this takes time and not many of us have that these days. Not to worry! I’ve got you covered.

What I love about this company is it values the craftsmanship of each artist and designer, its products are environmentally friendly by not harming animals in the production, and with each item you buy a portion of the money is donated to a nonprofit of your choice. Isn’t it awesome to do all our Christmas shopping in the luxury of your own home and help others along the way?

My first feature is gifts for her.  Whether you are shopping for your partner, your BFF, or your mom, there’s something for everyone!  As you know, I am obsessed with accessories and Uncommon Goods has so many beautiful pieces to choose from.  I am a fan of the chunky necklace because I think a gal can never have too many of those. Aren’t those scarves unbelievably gorgeous? I definitely want!

|1| F Stop Watch   |2| Bicycle Chain Cufflinks   |3| Ping Pong Set   |4| Guitar String Bracelets   |5| Shoe Socks

I love shopping for Mr. ShuGar, but it can be hard to find that gift which is just right for him. I want to give him something he will cherish and that usually involves a very personalized gift, which means a lot of searching.  At Uncommon Goods, I found so many gifts I want to buy for Mr. ShuGar! I am crazy about the F Stop Watch since Mr. ShuGar is a filmmaker.  He also enjoys cycling, so I thought the bicycle chain cufflinks would be a sweet present.  If your man likes to wear jewelry, then maybe you’ll like the guitar string bracelets.

|1| Mixtape Glasses   |2| Salt Collection   |3| Wine Tote    |4| Storymatic Kids Game       |5| Make Your Own Family Set    |6| State Towels

Finally, if you want to give gifts to a couple or a family, I’ve chosen my favorites above.  It’s always nice to give a couple a present that they will enjoy together.  We have several friends who are foodies and wine lovers so I chose the salt collection and the wine tote for them.  If your friends have kids, Uncommon Goods has so many fun options for those younger kiddos, like the Make Your Own Family Set,  or if they are older, the Storymatic Kids Game.  One gift for the entire family is a great deal!

Well, now all you have to do is go see for yourself and start shopping! I recommend starting with their Holiday Gift Guide first. Don’t stress, and have fun getting all your shopping done with the click of a button!

Happy {Cyber} Monday to all!
