Dear ShuGar Baby: We Were Young Once

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

Dear ShuGar Boy,

I know when you see mommy and daddy they look so much bigger than you, but a long time ago, we were babies, too. We also have our own mommy and daddy and grew up with love, much like you are being raised.  I remember when I was a kid, I always thought my mom and dad were born as adults already because that’s all I ever knew about them.

Thanksgiving Eatin’

I’m not much of a cook (although I try really hard), but I am a successful eater of all foods.  I have mad respect for those who can transform ingredients into a mouthful of goodness.  The picture above was taken of me while visiting Mr. ShuGar’s family in Michigan a few years ago. We took a road trip to the Upper Peninsula and enjoyed some cherry pie along the way!

Since Thanksgiving is only a few days away (Yay!), I thought I’d share some delicious recipes I’ve pinned. I invite you to follow my savory board. My dessert board is also yummy. If I am brave, I will try these recipes little by little. I need to take baby steps in the kitchen.

Bon appetit!

Some Question Things

The above photo made you laugh, didn’t it? I hope it did because I had a mini-LOL moment myself.  By now, my sweet readers, you know I am a nerd-at-heart and am proud of it. One of my nerdastic characteristics is my introspective nature. You’ve probably already noticed that in my blog posts. I love to ask questions that don’t necessarily have any answers. I think I’ve been like this since I was a little tiny tot. I’m just fascinated with life and the many unanswered questions we sometimes don’t pay attention to on a daily basis.

Want a glimpse into the questions floating in my brain?

Marriage Truths

Marriage has been an incredible experience.  It’s nothing like I ever imagined, but, instead, so much more than I could have ever dreamed of.  It’s one of my favorite topics to discuss here on el blog because it just fascinates me. So many of us take the plunge and experience our lives with a partner we promised to love forever. But, how does a marriage really look like on a daily basis. What I am trying to ask is:

What happens after happily ever after?

ShuGar Baby Monthly Update: 16th Week

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

It’s that time of the month to give you my preggo update! I also realized I forgot to mention that Mr. ShuGar and I are tracking our baby’s development based on time of conception (fetal age) and not pregnancy age. What that means is that I am sharing my update of the 16th fetal week, but actually the baby is officially 18 weeks when these pictures were taken. Make sense? I know for me it was confusing because I thought it odd that you start counting the age of the baby before the baby actually existed. That’s why we decided to count our own time, but I explain this so you know why I may look bigger than just 16 weeks.

In my 16th week…

Wedding Dreaming

|1|  Sarah Seven’s Freya  |2|  WToo’s Bevan  |3|  BHLDN’s Isadora  |4|  Monique Lhuillier’s Wanderlust  |5|  Monique Lhuillier’s Memory

Hi ShuGar Loves! How was your weekend? I had a great time connecting with friends and family. I finally got a chance to eat at Cafe Laurent. Yum-Mee! They know how to do French brunch.  I also met up with my sis and mom to begin planning our dual parties: Her bridal shower and my baby shower. So much joy in our family happening these days!

All this party planning has me thinking of the last party I planned: our magical wedding. I wouldn’t change one thing about our day. Well, except I would want the day to move in slow motion so I could soak in every sweet moment. It just went by sooooo quickly!

There are so many dreamy wedding dresses out there now! When I was looking for the dress, BHLDN was just barely opening and I swoon over all their dresses. I’m also crazy about Sarah Seven dresses. My wedding dress aesthetic is a combination of whimsy and elegance.

If I would go shopping for the white dress again (to marry Mr. ShuGar again), these are some of the top dresses I’d be dreaming about. Aaahhhh, you can never really take the bride out of the wife 😉

Have a beautiful Monday, all!

Mrs. ShuGar Reviews: David Sedaris’ “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls”

It’s Friday, lovely readers! Woohoo!

Gosh, I’ve wanted to review David Sedaris’ Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls for like ever.  As I mentioned ages ago here, Mr. ShuGar and I are part of this fun book club with our dear friends, who also are book nerds.  We go through several steps in the nomination process and we allow any one of us to veto a book at any time.  During the summer, we read the Sedaris book and met to discuss it. I love doing that! It’s amazing just listening to our friends’ insight on how they interpreted the book.  I’ve been wanting to share my review and I have finally found the time to do so.

Remember to Remember

Hi ShuGar readers! I hope you are all enjoying your week. Almost TGIF!

Someone told me this phrase this week and it kind of stuck.

Remember to Remember

Life if filled to the brim with things to do, people to see, food to cook, rooms to clean and places to go.  However, what if we just take a daily mini-break and remember to remember what life is all about.

Boy or Girl?

Mommy’s Corner is a weekly series exploring our journey in becoming parents, our love for our ShuGar baby, and general topics related to mommyhood.

Almost immediately after we tell anyone we are having a baby, the next two questions follow:

Do you want a boy or a girl? Do you know already?

I always stop to think twice on how to answer these two questions and in what order. If I answer the former first, then answer the latter, I may sound disappointed if the two answers don’t match. I usually just go directly to stating I already know the gender. We’ve actually known for a while since I got “special” testing during the first trimester due to my age.  We are having a beautiful boy!

But, the gender question is actually a loaded one with many assumptions and societal expectations laced in each gender response.

Speak Up

Confession: I feel completely vulnerable writing this post.  After all, who likes to shed light on one of our weaknesses? Well, here goes….shine the beaming light on it! I am ready to discuss.

Am I the only one who struggles with speaking from your heart? I am not just talking about in a relationship, but this pertains to work, every day interactions, emails etc. Specifically, I am referring to speaking up when you feel there is an injustice or you feel slighted in some way. It’s easier to do this with someone you feel extremely comfortable with (although that comes with its own set of challenges), but how about expressing your heart with someone whom you may not know how s/he will react.
