ShuGar Fix Mondays: The Way Way Back Beach House Fashion

Hello sweet readers! I hope your weekend was filled with smiles.  We celebrated our two-year anniversary by watching a film and going to a museum (of course!).  It was a beautiful weekend to just be with Mr. ShuGar.

Today’s inspiration post is inspired by last week’s movie review of The Way Way Back.  Since the film takes place in a summer beach house,  the fashion above is what I would love to take to spend some vacay time near the beach.  Isn’t that summer dress the cutest? I think it’s a nice alternative to the normal tunic.  I know school is starting for many, but hopefully you still have a chance to take one last summer getaway.  It’s still summer!

Happy Monday!

I’ve Been Blogger Tagged!

Yup, folks you read it right! I’ve been tagged by the loveliest blogger, Etta, who writes a pretty blog called Etta’s Threads.  The way this works is my tagger, Etta, posed eleven questions she’d like me to answer. I then ask eleven different questions to a bunch of other rad bloggers so that we can all get to know each other better. Fun, right?  One of the many fun things about blogging is connecting with other bloggers who share my passion for writing.  So, below are the rules proceeded by the answers to my tagged questions.

The ShuGars Turn Two!

Our two year wedding anniversary is here!  I can still remember Mr. ShuGar serenading a Beatles song to me as he then proceeded to get on one knee.  I can vividly recall all the daily hard work we put into making our Beatles themed wedding a reality.  I still have flashes of our challenging first year of marriage as I was immersed in my graduate program.   Even though two years may not seem like too long, I am so proud of how much our love has grown during these last two years.

I know there are so-called “marriage experts” out there who claim to possess the secrets of a long-lasting marriage.  To be honest, I don’t know if there is a special formula to guarantee everlasting love.  I do know what has worked and hasn’t worked for us and I’d like to share it with you.  Behold my marriage dos’s and don’ts for year two.

Mrs. ShuGar Reviews: The Way Way Back

Last I checked, it’s still summer (yay!).  Of course, this means a lot of fun things are happening and this is a good thing. It also usually means there are a lot of crappy movies in the theater, which don’t really have much substance. Don’t get me wrong; if you want to see a movie with lots of special effects and explosions, then summer movie season is the best time for you.  Personally, I am an indie film nerd and I am more intrigued with movies that have great writing and strong characters.

ShuGar Fix Mondays: Blue Jasmine Sister Fashion

|1| Gem Drops Earrings   |2| Adette Dress   |3| White Clutch   |4| Brian Atwood Sandals  |5| Pink Tea Blouse   |6| Crossbody Bag   |7| Triangle Earrings |8| Denim Wedges   |9| Print Mini Skirt

Hello, hello! I hope you had a fun weekend.  We had a fab weekend as we went to see the Fab Four cover band. We can never get enough of those Beatles!

Today’s ShuGar Fix is inspired by Woody Allen’s film, Blue Jasmine (to read my review, click here).   If you  haven’t seen the flick yet (what are you waiting for?), the two central characters are adopted sisters from the opposite side of the tracks.  Jasmine (played by Cate Blanchett), is a former New York socialite suffering  major withdrawals from her high society life.  Ginger (played by Sally Hawkins) lives a simple, working class life as a grocery bagger, but remains optimistic.

If I were either of these two sisters, above is the fashion I would wear.  Jasmine is classically elegant with clothing containing clean lines and more muted colors.  On the other hand, Ginger lives a more modest existence and her fashion reflects this.  She wears vibrant colors with a youthful style and maintains a casual appearance.

Which sister are you more like when it comes to fashion? I definitely consider myself a mixture of both sisters:  Quirky with a classic edge.

Happy Monday!

Mrs. ShuGar Reviews: Blue Jasmine

Hello ShuGar sweethearts!  I hope you feel great because it’s Friday!

When Mr. ShuGar and I were getting to know each other, one of our first bonding experiences was our admiration of Woody Allen.  Of course, Mr. ShuGar had seen many more of his films since it is his career, but I shared my passion for Allen’s keen ability to tell a good story.  This is never to be understated, especially in our era of mind-numbing, Hollywood Blockbusters.

So, you can imagine any time Woody Allen makes a film (which seems like every year), we drop all plans and go straight to the movies! Last weekend, we saw Woody Allen’s latest masterpiece, Blue Jasmine staring the gorgeous Cate Blanchett playing Jasmine and funnyman Alec Baldwin as Hal, Jasmine’s conniving, cheating husband.

I’m so excited to share with you my thoughts on the film in the hopes that you will skip the next action flick to see a compelling story about delusion and greed mixed with a tinge of Woody humor.

A Cup of ShuGar: It’s OK

I’ve been dreaming of writing this blog post for quite some time.  It’s a present to my loyal, lovely ShuGar readers. I know life can be amazingly challenging some times.  Do not despair. Never give up.  Strive for greatness, but know it’s ok to just be who you are.  Try to stop thinking of what could have been, what should be or what may be.  Just Be.
