Ladies, Let’s Talk Infidelity

I debated for a long time whether I should write about this.  It’s not a very “happy” topic to discuss, but, ultimately, I feel it’s important to have a space for dialogue about infidelity.  Ladies, let’s have a heart-to-heart.

Our media seems to be obsessed with celebrities and politicians who have had indiscretions, especially if there is evidence involved.  Even the last movie I watched, Blue Jasmine, centers around infidelity in a marriage.  The latest hot topic is, of course, the unfaithful Anthony Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin. You must be living under a rock if you haven’t heard of the infamous Carlos Danger! (cracks me up every time) I’m not going to discuss politics on my blog – it’s such a turn off.  What I will discuss is how we deal with infidelity and sisterhood.

But, wait! There’s more reading!

ShuGar Fix Mondays: Museum Day

|1| LA graphic tee  |2| Love bangle  |3| Print skinny pants  |4| Denim jacket  |5| Twist scarf  |6| Oxfords  |7| Yellow bag  |8| LACMA Inspiration

Happy Monday, ShuGar sweethearts! I hope you had a fab weekend.  Mine was very productive since I purged one of my closets bursting with clothes. Felt so good! I also saw the new Woody Allen flick,  Blue Jasmine. Stay tuned for movie reviews on the blog.

For this Monday’s installment of ShuGar Fix Mondays, I thought I’d share some fun fashion for a day at a museum.  For Mr. ShuGar and I, any time we have some free time, we love visiting a museum to check out the latest exhibition and love just roaming the halls of art.  It’s so inspiring to be among great art – it’s like food to the soul.  LA is the perfect place to quench our art cravings.  There is a museum for all artistic tastes, so boredom is not an option.

If you have ever been to a museum, you also know how tiring it can be.  After all, you’re standing and walking for hours, with little respite.  So, comfort is key, but not at the expense of fashion.  Above is my dream outfit for a day at a museum so that you can look cute and still be comfy.  I was inspired by my last LACMA trip I took, displayed in the middle above.

There are so many adorable graphic tees out there.  Pick one that reflects your personal style.  Since printed pants are trending, I picked these cute black and white pants to add some funkiness to the outfit.  I’m sure we all have a denim jacket in our closet, but many of us probably don’t have THIS kind of jacket. It has an edge to the traditional jacket look, a la 1980’s.  Now, I will never understand those ladies who wear high heels at a museum. Really?  That ain’t me. Ever.  I need some stylish flats like these Oxfords to get me through the day.  I love these because they remind me of my Catholic School shoes…retro!  You know me.  An outfit isn’t mine if it doesn’t have accessories!  I’m swooning over these Love bangles with different shades of metal.  And, the pink hair twist from Ban.Do is so whimsical!  Finally, complete your outfit with a Kate Spade Saturday bag from Fab.  Lots of bright colors to choose from, but I love happy yellow.

So, you’re all set to spend a beautiful day exploring the art in your city!  If you’re looking for my pick for LA musuems, below are some of my favs:

Some Buenos Aires Things

This week a weird thing happened.  I was sitting in traffic for my commute to work and all of a sudden I saw something on the street and Buenos Aires immediately popped into my head.  I was filled with images of the streets, the buildings and the people.  Five years ago, I lived in Buenos Aires over a summer and had the time of my life.  For the past couple of years, I hadn’t thought much about my trip.  Life keeps us busy these days.  I don’t even know what I had seen on the street that somehow triggered my Buenos Aires trip, but I am glad it did.

I am a traveler at heart.  One of my dream jobs is to be a travel writer.  I’m so blessed to have lived/traveled to several countries when I was younger.  Each one is different and holds a special place in my heart.  Since I am currently day dreaming of Buenos Aires, I thought I’d share some things I love about this amazing city.  The great thing about having a blog is you can document your thoughts so that one day you can go back and read them.

Buenos Aires is…

His Happiness

Before I met Mr. ShuGar, I didn’t consider myself marriage material.  I guess I just enjoyed my independence and I assumed that being married would stifle my identity.  Of course, like almost every girl, I fantasized about my wedding, but I never really had any thoughts beyond that day.  For most of my life, all I wanted to do was to travel the world and visit every continent (this still is my dream).

However, when I fell in love with Mr. ShuGar, I changed.  I daydreamed about being with him and traveling the world…with him.  I was unclear as to many of my future goals, but I knew I wanted him to be in my life forever.  Saying “I do” to Mr. ShuGar was the most magical day in my life.  I wish I could wave a wand and go back to the beginning of our wedding day. I would soak in every single moment. I’d listen to both of us saying our vows. I’d tell each guest that we loved them and are grateful they are there because they were hand picked as the most important people in our lives. I’d dance all night with my new husband and I would sit at our table and enjoy the view of our gorgeous wedding.

Although my wedding was a dream come true, my marriage has been the daily proof of our wedding vows.  Outside of my love for my family, loving Mr. ShuGar has taught me what unconditional love looks like.  One of my greatest marriage lessons has been realizing that Mr. ShuGar’s happiness equals my happiness (to a certain extent).

Helmut Newton is the Man

Ssshhhh…..Don’t tell Mr. ShuGar! I have a photog crush with the world-renowned fashion photographer, Mr. Helmut Newton.

Maybe it’s because I feel an affinity with artists.  For me, there ain’t nothing sexier than someone creative living a life crafted by their vision.  Guess that’s why I fell in love with my filmmaker hubs.  When I see him write or shoot film, I feel so connected to his soul.  Or maybe I am attracted to Helmut because I am currently studying photography and have a deep admiration for anyone who can manage to take an extraordinary photo like Mr. Newton.  But, let’s face it, Mr. Helmut Newton ain’t just anybody.  He redefined the fashion world when it comes to photographs.  Actually, I think I have a photog crush because deep down in the pits of my being, I have an artist’s soul.  I feel most like myself when creating.  Yup, that’s got to be it!

For my last birthday, Mr. ShuGar took me to see Helmut Newton’s exhibit White Women, Sleepless Nights, Big Nudes at the Annenberg Space for Photography.  I was instantly transported to a photographer’s dreamland.  Helmut’s photos are out of this universe!

ShuGar Fix Mondays: Wrap it Up

|1| Plaid Scarf  |2| Hello Scarf  |3|  Green & Purple Scarf  |4|  Coral Scarf  |5|  Square Scarf  |6|  Blue & White Scarf  |7|  Safety Pins Scarf  |8| Owl Scarf

Hi ShuGar Love readers! I hope you had a nice weekend.  I enjoyed a weekend with lots of “me” time since Mr. ShuGar was away for a bachelor party.  It’s great to have these weekends once in a while.

Now, let’s talk fashion.  One accessory that I wear year round is a scarf.  No matter what the weather is, I can always find a scarf to suit any occasion. Scarves give you that extra pop with any outfit and provide some warmth in chilly-ish weather.  I just love the variety of scarves we are seeing in fashion right now.  For my personal style, I gravitate towards some funky prints.

All scarves above were inspired by me finding my old purple scarf (pictured in the middle of the inspiration board) this past week. It was buried in my drawer and I forgot I even had it! I love when that happens; It feels like you went shopping in your closet!  I don’t remember where I bought it.  I have a feeling it was in Paris, but I’m not too sure.

These scarves have a quirky vibe; I dig ’em! The “hello” scarf contains a print of the famous Jerry Macguire quote, “You had me at hello.”  How freakin’ awesome is that?! Although I also enjoy solid colored scarves, there’s something really special about scarves that have geometric shapes like #1, #4 and #5. Who doesn’t like safety pins on a scarf? If you do, #7 is the scarf for you. It doesn’t get any crazier than an owl print in #8. It’s perfect for us die hard Harry Potter fans!

I encourage you to consider wrapping your beautiful neck with a scarf!

Some Things: LA summer weekend

One of my blog crushes is Lovely Indeed, a sweet blog about life and lovely things. I love her feature about lists and thought it would be kinda fun to do something inspired by my own top things.

Since the weekend is upon us (yay!), I’d like to share some rad things happening in LA that you can check out.  If you don’t live in LA, even more reason to visit one day! I love my city mainly because there is so much diversity. For more on my LA adoration, read here.

So, here goes…some of my picks for a fun LA weekend are….

A Cup of ShuGar: Beauty Everywhere

Life is hard.  We live every day working our butts off, responding to tons of emails behind our computers, racing to meet deadlines and longing for just five more minutes of sleep in the morning.  But life has to be more than that. Life IS more than that.  It’s all about what we see and how we see it.  I am trying to make a more conscious effort on giving my attitude a much-needed facelift – little Miss Complainer would rather be known as little Miss Optimist!

In an effort to practice what I preach, I decided to photograph an average Wednesday in my life and the beauty in the mundane.  They may appear worthless to some, but for me these images are gems in my life that I would love to honor. Without them, I would feel a loss.

Dear (Hopefully Future) ShuGar Baby: Dream Biggest

Disclaimer: I am not pregnant.

Since my blog documents my heart, I thought it would be neat to share “letters” to our hopefully future ShuGar baby who does not exist just yet, but lives only in our hearts.  To read my first post to our ShuGar baby, click here.  If Mr. ShuGar and I are blessed to one day have a child, I would love to read these letters to our little one and share our love.

ShuGar Fix Mondays: Original Emails

|1| Bonjour  |2| Grateful  |3| Je T’aime  |4| Balloon  |5| Stripes  |6| Dots  |7| Quotes  |8| Hearts  |Vintage Letter Inspiration|

Hi lovelies! I hope you all had a fab weekend.

I am happy to be one of the few who still remembers using a pen and paper to communicate to someone.  I know – so old school, right? Yet, there’s something so artsy about picking out paper goods that reflect your aesthetic in order to convey your message.  Somehow it just doesn’t feel the same when you receive an email with a white background and plain text, which was typewritten versus handwritten.

Not too long ago, there used to be many stationery stores in our neighborhood. One by one, they all started to close down. When Hallmark shut down, I admit I felt sad. I used to spend hours just going through all the cards to pick just the right one for that very special person. There is a sense of nostalgia when it comes to letterpress printing. I think I also feel a connection to paper because my grandfather owned a small printing company.

Lucky for me, I live in LA and you can always find what you are looking for!  One of my favorite stores in my hood is Urbanic Paper Boutique. Every time I go in, I feel like a kid in a candy store!  When the hubs and I were planning our wedding, one of my favorite parts about it was collaborating with Posh Paperie to create our invitations. I was obsessed with our invites – they totally reflected our style!

Above is this week’s ShuGar Fix Monday’s Inspiration Board and it’s all about paper dreamin’.  The image of the old letters in the middle was the catalyst for my paper lust. I love all these items and I plan to collect them little by little. Hopefully this will motivate you to go back to the days when emails didn’t exist and instead use pen and paper to send a sweet note filled with love.

Happy Monday!
